Hundreds of fans were left fuming when a music festival at Tuem was called off at the last moment on Saturday evening, after organisers did not have necessary permissions to stage the event.

The music concert was to be staged on Saturday at 7 pm and a large number of fans from across Goa and Maharashtra had obtained passes to attend the event.

In the afternoon, a fire broke out in the dry grass on the plateau near the venue in Tuem. A fire brigade rushed to the site and extinguished the fire.

Later in the evening, Pernem Deputy Collector Shivprasad Naik inspected the site along with officials from other departments.

Officials then found out that the organisers did not have the necessary permission from the fire department and other relevant authorities to stage the event.

Deputy Collector Shivprasad Naik later clarified that the event was being postponed due to the lack of permission from the fire department and relevant authorities.

“Following the tragedy during the Lairai Devi Zatra festival at Shirgao-Bicholim, and the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, it has become necessary to take special precautions regarding large events. It is our responsibility to ensure that no major accidents occur in Pernem taluka,” said Naik.

“Permission for the event will only be granted after all permits are obtained and a new date is decided.”

The sudden and unexpected cancellation of the music concert left the fans disappointed, especially they had travelled from far and wide to attend the event. The organisers have indicated that a new date for the event would be announced soon.

The cancellation of the event prompted angry reactions from many people

Uday Mandrekar sought to know if the deputy collector and other officials had inspected the many resorts and shacks to verify if similar permissions had been obtained to play loud music during the recent Christmas season along Pernem’s coast.
