Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai told the media on Friday that the Farmers Forward scheme, which will be launched on Sunday, will be formally notified after the Panchayat election results on June 14.
Under the new scheme, transplanting will be heavily subsidized so that more and more farmers take up agriculture in the current season itself. “The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared Mission 2022 to ensure that the farmers income from agriculture doubles in five years. In this connection, the Goa government will take the first step by unveiling the Farmers Forward scheme wherein transplanters will be provided at subsidized rates so that maximum area is brought under cultivation. This government has vowed to work for Goemkarponn, and it would be our endeavor to restore the pristine glory in the field of agriculture,” he added.
Saying that the Alliance government in Goa would soon unveil the Common Minimum program before the people of Goa, Sardesai exuded confidence that the Goa government would receive support from the Centre to implement the CMP, saying there are many projects in the CMP which need the backing of the Union government.
Earlier, the TCP Minister launched hot mixing the wholesale fish market road, from Hotel La Grace to Seraulim Railway Gate as promised earlier. Residents gathered in large numbers for the inauguration of hot mix which is estimated at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore.
Sardesai alongwith Councillors Peter Fernandes, Tito Cardoso, Jose Fernandes, Glenn Andrade, Angelis Pereira, Terence Barbosa were present. “Some NGOs had made a noise demanding hot mixing of the road and a turn around of the market. We have no objection if they have highlighted certain aspects, but at the same time they should also welcome the development. We will complete the pending works,” he said.
