SANGUEM
The farmers opposing the IIT project on agricultural land at Cotarli-Sanguem have once again accused government authorities of harassing them by calling them for hearings in the proceedings filed by police before the Sub Divisional Magistrate Sanguem.
The second hearing on Thursday was adjourned without any discussion, causing anger among the farmers who claimed it was a time-wasting technique of the government to harass the farmers.
“During the survey operations last week, authorities deployed a large number of policemen at every entry point of Cotarli Village to prevent farmers from getting to know as to which area was brought under survey operations,” said a farmer, Constancio Mascarenhas.
“During the survey operations, the farmers were even not allowed to take their vehicles inside their farm lands which ultimately led to farmers facing severe problems in agricultural operations.”
“The government may resort to any tactics but the farmers will not give up and will continue the agitation till we succeed in getting the IIT project shifted elsewhere,” added Mascarenhas who is heading the farmers group.
The agitating farmers claim that the farmers having their farmlands in neighbouring areas have also assured their support to them to oppose the IIT in Sanguem.
The farmers also criticised the police for not taking any action against IIT supporters who had disrupted their meeting even after having filed a written complaint with the Sanguem Police.
