A major fire in the wee hours of Saturday completely destroyed a fast food centre located at the Aquem area of the commercial capital.
Property worth lakhs of rupees have been gutted in the fire. The Margao Fire brigade has written to the Electricity Department and the police to ascertain the exact fire behind the incident.
The Fire brigade received a fire call at around 3.25 am on Saturday, but before the fire brigade could reach the spot, the shop was already engulfed by a major fire.
Fire officer Gill D’Souza told the media that while the fire brigade received the fire call at 3.25 am, the fire must have occurred in the fast food shop at least one hour became it came to light. “After someone informed the owner that smoke was billowing out from the shop, the shutter was opened, which further resulted in the spread of the fire,” he said.
Saying the shop suffered extensive damaged and destruction of property, Gill said deep freezers, refrigerators, lap tops, food items, besides the structure were all damaged in the incident.
