Fatorda double murder: 2 get life imprisonment

Court holds accused guilty of robbery-murder; prosecution examined 24 witnesses

The two accused convicted by the South Goa Sessions Court in the sensational Chandrawado-Fatorda double murder case have been sentenced to undergo imprisonment for life.

The two accused Rabinkumar alias Ravi Sada and Akash Ghosh were convicted by the Court earlier this month in connection with the murder of Minguel Miranda and his mother-in-law Catarina Pinto, who were stabbed to death.

The prosecution stated that the three accused persons, including a minor boy, with their common intention to commit robbery in the house of deceased Minguel Miranda, trespassed into his outside kitchen, armed with deadly weapons such as knives and hammer (ghan) committed the double murder of Minguel and his mother in-law Catarina Pinto by stabbing them with knives and assaulting them with the big hammer. The duo had died instantly in the attack.

After the assault, the three accused persons, including the minor boy then trespassed into the house of deceased Minguel Miranda and committed theft of wallet containing cash, gold chain and documents of the deceased.

The accused have been charged for committing offence under Section 302, 394, 397, 398, 449 r/w 34 of IPC.

The Prosecution had examined a total of 24 witnesses in support of its case. Sources said the minor boy was earlier convicted by the Juvenile Justice Board. The case was investigated by then Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak.
