A road accident at a three-road junction near Maharaja Hotel, Verna, on December 24 escalated into a violent confrontation after a car driver allegedly assaulted and threatened a scooter rider with a knife before fleeing the scene.
According to the complaint, Francis de Mello of Poriebhatt-Verna, the incident occurred at around 6 pm when a Swift Dzire car, travelling from Titan towards Verna, allegedly dashed into his scooter while he was crossing
the road. The impact caused de Mello to fall onto the road, resulting in injuries to him.
De Mello alleged that after the collision, the car driver identified as Jogan D’Silva of Verna, parked his vehicle in the middle of the road and approached him holding a knife. The accused allegedly slapped De Mello and criminally intimidated him by threatening to kill him, before fleeing the spot along with the car.
Acting on the complaint, Verna police booked the accused driver, Jogan D’Silva, under Sections 281, 125(a), 115(2) and 351(2) of the BNS along with Sections 134(a) and 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Further investigation is being carried out by Verna ASI Paresh Fal Dessai under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
