Fatorda locals object to circus scheduled in residential area

Residents of Fatorda along with the local MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday objected to the circus scheduled to come up in the residential locality behind the KTC bus stand.

The MLA as well as the residents maintained they are not opposed to the circus per se, but raised their objections to the location in a residential area, accessible by a narrow road and no parking amenities.

Sardesai suggested to the circus manager to shift the location near the SAG ground where land has been acquired for the Hockey Association.

The Fatorda MLA also offered to assist the circus management to get the permissions if they are willing to shift the venue to the land acquired for the Hockey Association.

The residents pointed out that the circus management has started erecting tents behind the KTC bus stand when the event will only aggravate matters for the residents in the locality.

Carlton Dias pointed out that the residents are not opposed to the circus, but have only asked to shift the location to a nearby place in the interest of the residents.

“The area is accessible by a narrow road and has no parking space. A circus behind the bus stand will only make matters worse for the residents,” he said.

Another resident Nitin Narvekar has echoed similar sentiments saying the circus behind the KTC bus stand will only inconvenience the residents.

Taking up cudgels for the residents, the Fatorda MLA descended at the site with councillors Lyndon Pereira and Johnny Crasto and expressed their support for the shifting of the venue.

“No one is opposing the circus, but those who have brought the circus should have given a thought to the problems that would arise in the locality,” he said.

Saying the government has become a big circus in the State, Sardesai offered his help and assistance to the management to get the permissions at the new venue.
