Fatorda MLA booked for blocking traffic

The Fatorda police has booked MLA Vijai Sardesai and 100 others under provisions of the Indian Penal Code for blocking traffic at the Linga traffic junction on Thursday.

Other leaders booked by the police includes Goa Forward leaders Mohandas Lolienkar, Dilip Prabhudesai, Durgadas Kamat, Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira, Goa Forward councillors Pooja Naik, Raju Naik, Nimisha Faleiro, Johnny Crasto, besides Siddhanath Buyao, Ashma Syed, Kadar Shah.

The offence registered on behalf of the State has charged the Fatorda MLA and other leaders for forming unlawful assembly, blocking the road and wrongfully restraining smooth flow of traffic and making inconveniencing to public. They have been also booked under Section 353 of the IPC for allegedly using criminal force on police while discharging their lawful duties.

The Fatorda MLA along with Goa Forward party workers had on Thursday blocked the road near the Linga Junction in protest against the stoppage of execution of road works to the tune of Rs 22 crore. The protestors had later marched to the PWD office wherein they were told that the department has issued the work orders to the contractors and there are not instructions to keep the ongoing works on hold.
