Fatorda police station has registered its first murder after a 25-year old native of Jharkhand, Mantri Marandi, was done to death by another worker hailing from the same state at the under construction South Goa district hospital site late Sunday night.
In a swift action, the Fatorda police arrested accused Samray Yadav (22) under section 302 of the IPC. He was remanded to 10 days police custody by a Margao court on Monday.
PI Navlesh Desai informed that the two natives of Jharkhand had a scuffle earlier in the day on Sunday at around 7.45 pm over a petty issue under the influence of liquor. "The duo later fought again at around 9.30 pm wherein the accused hit a concrete slab on the head of the deceased, killing him on the spot," PI Navlesh informed.
He pointed out that around 200 labourers are presently staying at the hospital construction site, adding that the police has recorded the statements of some of the labourers as part of the investigation.
