MARGAO
He may be out of power post the July 10 political developments wherein his Goa Forward party was unceremoniously dumped by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, but Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai is now bracing to inaugurate a host of projects in his constituency sanctioned during his stint as a Minister in the coalition government.
As many as three projects will be launched on three auspicious days “ the inauguration of the St Francis Xavier Chapel at Madel on November 23, on the eve of the novenas of the Patron Saint of Goa, inauguration of the night food market opposite the KTC bus stand on October 2 and the inauguration of the Arlem-Margao four lane road on the birth anniversary of late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on December 13.
While asking the consultant to give final touches to the St Francis Xavier Chapel at Madel before its inauguration, the Fatorda MLA said, “The St Francis Xavier Chapel project is a unique project in post-Liberation period, for the simple reason that the local community and the Church had volunteered to relocate the Chapel from the road side as it was causing traffic obstruction.”
The Fatorda MLA later visited the parking lot opposite the KTC bus stand, where a night food market was conceived by him during his stint as Minister.
Accompanied by Margao Municipal Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai and president of Gadda Traders Association, Prashant Naik, the MLA inspected the parking lot to explain the modalities of the night food market on the land.
“The concept of the night food market is simple. Food stalls, which will operate from the parking lot will sport a common model, a reflection of Goan architecture. We will be able to see Goemkarponn at the night food market,” he said.
Sardesai clarified that the market will not disturb the parking arrangements, saying the food market will operate during night time and the gaddas and the waste generated at the place will be cleared before dawn.
The Margao Municipal Council had adopted a resolution at a meeting held earlier this year to name the Arlem-Ravindra Bhavan road after late Manohar Parrikar for the simple reason that it was the former Chief Minister, who had given the sanction to develop the road into a four-lane road with provision for amenities on both sides.
