MARGAO

The new-found friendship between political foes, Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik was on full display at Fatorda as they celebrated Holi, the festival of colours on Monday.

The Margao MLA headed to the Lord Damodar Temple at Linga near the Nehru stadium to offer prayers to the Presiding deity where the two-time former BJP MLA Damu Naik and party workers were present in strength.

After offers prayers to Lord Dambab, the two leaders greeted each other by smearing gulal on each other. Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar and other party leaders from Margao and Fatorda were present.

This is perhaps the first time in the last 17 years that both Digambar Kamat and Damu Naik have played Holi together, indicating the political realignment taking shape in Margao and Fatorda since September 14, 2022.

In fact, Kamat had been making repeated presence in Fatorda, the fiefdom of friend-turned-foe, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai, in what is seen in local political circles as an attempt to pave way for the return of the BJP back to power in Fatorda.

Incidentally, the Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai along with wife Usha and party workers descended at the temple and offered prayers to Lord Dambab.
