Continuing their initiatives to support children, over 100 Xaxti Riders cycled on Sunday to spread awareness about childhood cancer.

The ride was part of 'CycleForGold' challenge organised by 'CanKids KidsCan', the National Society for Change for Childhood Cancer. Over 1,000 riders from cycling clubs all over India collectively cycled more than four 4,00,000 kms in 35 days between February 4 and March 10. Goa’s Xaxti Riders bagged the trophy for third place, contributing a staggering 41,835 kms of team cycling.

“The CycleForGold Challenge was an amazing catalyst for team members to cycle for a cause, and channel personal wellbeing and health to raise awareness and funds for children with cancer,” said Sameer Nadkarni, President, Xaxti Riders, while addressing a medals distribution ceremony in Margao.

In its third year, CycleForGold is India’s largest charity cycling challenge with an aim to support and raise awareness and funds to improve survival and to address challenges in accessing care for children with cancer.

According to board member Priti Dhall, CanKids KidsCan works with 141 hospitals across 22 States. “In Goa, we work with Sabrcare and extend holistic care including funding for diagnostics, medicines, therapies, blood support and so on,” informed Ms Dhall. “Our mission is to improve access to treatment and facilitate the right care to improve the lives of people living with cancer,” added Dr Rheane Da Silva of Sabrcare.

The CycleForGold initiative was also lauded by Dr Anupama Borkar, Professor and Head, Department of Medical Oncology, Goa Medical College. “It is heartening to see riders across Goa spread awareness and honour the bravery of every child facing cancer. With the support of the community and events like CycleForGold, we are able to spread awareness that childhood cancer is indeed curable.”

In 2023, the Margao-based Xaxti Riders had organised ‘All Goa Special Olympics Cycling Time Trial’ to showcase the sporting talents of special children.
