In a swift and decisive action aimed at upholding food safety standards, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carried out a series of surprise inspections in Mapusa, particularly in the area near the former Alankar theatre, following reports that certain food outlets had resumed operations without complying with mandated regulations.
During the inspection drive, FDA officials identified two food stalls that were found to be operating in violation of safety and hygiene norms.
The owners of the stalls, who had allegedly resumed business without addressing previously cited lapses, were immediately directed to cease operations.
Each stall owner was also penalised with a fine of Rs 10,000 for non-compliance with FDA regulations.
In a separate but related inspection, the FDA team also visited the base kitchen of a well-known bakery located in Karaswada.
Upon inspection, officials reported unhygienic conditions within the premises, raising serious concerns over the safety of food being prepared at the facility. As a result, the bakery’s kitchen was ordered to suspend its operations with immediate effect until the issues are rectified and necessary hygiene standards are met.
An FDA spokesperson stated that these actions are part of an ongoing effort to ensure food establishments adhere strictly to safety guidelines, especially in the wake of rising complaints about substandard practices.
“There will be zero tolerance for such violations. We are committed to safeguarding public health and will continue to carry out surprise inspections across the state,” the official said.
The FDA has further warned that repeat offenders and establishments found guilty of serious lapses in future inspections may face stricter penalties, including revocation of licences.
