FDA seizes Rs 87K worth of unlabelled food in South Goa

PANAJI:

An FDA team swooped down on the Margao KTC bus-stand on Thursday, and intercepted inter-state buses and seized food items worth Rs 30,000 being illegally transported without any manufacturing date, labels or use-bydate markings as prescribed under FSSAI.

Officials said items like pickles, stone choclate, 'hing goli', paan and sweet amla were among those seized.

The drive was conducted in view of the Ganesh Chaturthi festive season, when such illegal transportation of food items peaks, the official said.

"No proper manufacturing and use by dates, or FSSAI license number on labels were found for these seized stocks," the official said.

Additionaly one parcel of ice cubes brought in a bus from Pune which was manufactured in Pune and had a label declaring FSSAI license number of a Goa manufacturing unit was also seized," the official added.

The total stock of ice seized was worth Rs 12000.

Meanwhile is separate action, the FDA inspected a manufacturing unit at Sirvoi Quepem and seized 150 kgs of 'kalakand' worth Rs 45000 which had no label declaration with batch number, use by date and nutrition information. The stock was found to have added green colour too.

All the seized stocks were destroyed in the interest of public health, the official said, adding that Designated Officer (South Goa) Sanjyot Kudalkar led the team which also comprised of Sr FSO Madhav, Priya, FSOs Amardeep, Abhishek, Priya and MTS Gauresh.
