In an effort to give impetus to the fight against corruption, the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress observed 'Zero Tolerance to Corruption Day' on Sunday.

On the occasion, youth Congress felicitated RTI activist Sudip Tamankar at the hands of AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar at a simple function at Panaji bus stand.

Speaking on the occasion, Chodankar said many people became leaders promising to fight the scourge of corruption.

He recalled how some tall leaders from the BJP promised zero tolerance to corruption in the 2012 assembly election, but conveniently forgot the promise after assuming power.

“Tamankar never compromised in his fight against corruption. Everyone knows how corrupt people tried to bribe him in order to silence his voice,” Chodankar said.

He congratulated GPYC president Xavior Fialo for organising the Zero Tolerance to Corruption day by felicitating Tamankar.

Surendra Furtado and GPCC secretary Urfan Mulla also spoke on the occasion.

Tamankar thanked the Youth Congress for recognizing his fight against corruption and assured that he will continue his fight against the scourge. He urged youth Congress to continue organizing the day every year and give recognition to more people fighting corruption.

He also highlighted the importance of the RTI Act and showed how it was a strong instrument in the hands of the common man.

Earlier, former GPYC president Sankalp Amonkar welcomed the gathering, North Goa District president Amarnath Panjikar compered the programme, while Xavier Fialho proposed the vote of thanks.
