He said a grand and unique festival linked to the local market will be held at the fort in the coming days. The aim is to revive the Sanquelim market and give the area a new identity and fresh energy.
After speaking at a programme in the market, the Chief Minister inspected the renovation work. Municipal Chairperson Siddhi Prabhu, Deputy Chairperson Dayanand Boryekar, Municipal Councillor Anand Kanekar and others were present.
During the visit, Sawant gave several suggestions. He said the fort premises must be kept clean, attractive and well maintained.
Officials said around 90 per cent of the work is complete. The inauguration is likely by the end of February or in the first week of March. Encroachments around the fort have been identified and will be removed soon to keep the area open and tidy.
