Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said the government will quip the Goa police with advanced technology in the detection of crimes, including cybercrimes, even as he inaugurated the shifting of the Maina-Curtorim police station in virtual mode to a new premises at Manora-Raia.

Set up around 31 years ago, the Maina-Curtorim police station has finally shifted its premises in the police station jurisdiction after operating from the South Goa district police headquarters since its inception in 1990.

Addressing the men-in-uniform via virtual mode, the Chief Minister said the government will ensure that the Goa police do not face any deficiencies and shortcomings in the discharge of duties for want of technology. “We will equip our police force with better and latest technology, including measures to detect cyber crimes, which would help increase the crime detection rate,” he said.

Saying that the Maina-Curtorim police station has finally come to its jurisdiction after operating from Margao for the last 31 years, the Chief Minister said Maina-Curtorim police station will soon have its own spacious premises on the land acquired at Sonsodo. 

“The government has taken measures to give a tone up the infrastructure as well as human development. Foundation stone for the new and spacious Maina-Curtorim PS premises will be laid in the coming months,” he added.

The police station is presently housed in six rooms of the government high school building at Manora-Raia.

Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco complimented the Chief Minister for getting the premises of Maina-Curtorim shifted out of Margao.

He made a fervent plea to the officers manning the police station to make the police station people friendly and one of the best in the state.

“People should not fear to step into a police station. Hence, it is incumbent on the officers as well as the constabulary to ensure they are people friendly and cooperative,” he said, while underscoring the need for the Goa police to earn goodwill of the people.

South Goa district Collector, Ruchika Katyal, IAS, South Goa SP Pankaj Kumar Singh, Margao Sub-divisional Police officer, DySP Harish 

Madkaikar, Maina-Curtorim PI Shivram Vaingankar, officers from other police sub-divisions in South Goa, besides ZP member Domnick Gaonkar also attended the inauguration.
