After the Colva Covid Care Centre, the government has given sanction for doctors and nurses to the proposed care centre at Cuncolim.
Around four doctors and eight nurses have been sanctioned for the Balli Primary Health centre, which will man the Cuncolim centre proposed at Cuncolim commercial building.
All the doctors have already joined duties at the Balli Primary Health Centre, while around four nurses have reported to the Health Centre so far.
Based on the manpower sanction, the Balli Primary Health Centre has written to South Goa district Collector Ruchika Katyal for other logistics to open the Covid care centre.
Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias informed, “No sooner the district Collector gives the nod, the Cuncolim care centre will start functioning from Cuncolim commercial complex.”
“The Covid care centre will help people who cannot go for home isolation for want of adequate rooms. Those who require special medical attention will be referred to the District hospital or the ESI Hosptial”, the MLA said.

MARGAO: Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai saw red with the government decision to set up Covid care centres in villages, and has accused the government for dragging its feet in sanctioning doctors and nurses for the proposed Covid care centres in Margao and Fatorda.
Newly-elected Chairperson Lyndon Pereira has also slammed the government for the delay in appointing doctors and nurses to man the two Covid care centres at Margao and Fatorda proposed by the Margao Municipal Council.
Sardesai said the government is indulging in politics by dragging its feet in sending doctors and nurses for the centres proposed at the Nehru stadium and at the Manohar Parrikar indoor stadium, Navelim.
“It is very strange that while the two proposed centres at Margao and Fatorda are awaiting doctors and nurses, the government is sending health care workers in villages to man the centres”, he said.
Sardesai said the two Covid care centres are all equipped with logistics, including beds and oxygen, but added that the Margao Municipality will not open the two Centres till the government sends the health care workers. “When a football died at a tournament sponsored by me, the police booked a case against me. If any patient admitted in any of the two care centres dies for whatever reason, the government will be quick to book us for Murder”, he said.
