MARGAO
Day one of Margao Municipal Chief Lyndon Pereira saw the newly-elected civic chief intercepting a van laden with waste at the Sonsodo dumping site on Friday.
And, he found himself in the Municipal garage which had no roof tiles, damaged during Cyclone Tauktae, but yet to be repaired by the municipal technical section.
Lyndon also had a meeting with the municipal sectional heads, including technical, sanitation, administrative and conducted a review of the functioning of each of the sections.
When the Municipal chairperson visited the Sonsodo around Friday noon to take stock of the condition of the road leading to the waste treatment plant, he came across a van laden with waste, which had come to the site from Verna to dispose of bundles of waste.
Lyndon immediately called up the Fatorda police to book the vehicle for carrying unauthorized waste to Sonsodo, bringing to the fore the oft repeated question that unauthorized waste from outside Margao continues to find its way at the dumping yard.
Accompanied by Municipal engineer Dinisio D’Mello, the municipal chairperson visited the municipal garage at the Old market, only to find the roof damaged and awaiting repairs. As he found broken tile pieces and other debris lying inside the structure, the chairperson told the Municipal engineer to immediately get the premises repaired.
Earlier in the day, Lyndon conducted a review of the functioning of the various sections on Friday. “I took stock of the functioning of the various municipal sections. The section heads have given me their feedback and the issues awaiting solution”, he said.
