After facing flak from the ruling Panchayat members over the delay in filling up the vacant post of sarpanch, the panchayat authorities have fixed June 10 as fresh date for the election of new Colva sarpanch.
Head clerk in the office of the Salcete Block Development Office Maya Nagarsekar, who has been appointed as the presiding officer to conduct the election to the vacant post, has issued a corrigendum rescheduling the election for June 10. The programme, time fixed for election of the Sarpanch will remain unchanged, Maya stated in the corrigendum.
The decision to postpone the election for the post of Colva Sarpanch at the eleventh hour had drawn flak from the ruling panchayat members, who had termed it as arbitrary. The members had on Friday dashed off a petition to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho and other senior officials drawing their attention to the fact that the vacant post has not been filled up by the panchayat director for over two months and a half.
