MARGAO
A major fire gutted four rented rooms at Telaulim village on Thursday evening destroying property worth around Rs 5 lakh.
Two fire tenders were pressed into service to extinguish the fire after receiving a call at 5.15 pm. Gold ornaments from one of the rented rooms were destroyed in the fire. No one, however, was injured in the incident.
A fire tender requisitioned from Verna broke down on the way due to a technical fault, forcing the Margao fire brigade to call for the tender stationed at the Nehru stadium in view of the ISL match.
While one of the inmates contended that the fire occurred because of a short circuit, others claimed that the fire must have occurred following a leakage to the LPG cylinder.
Around five cylinders which were in the four structures were removed out by the people and the fire men. Fire brigade said the rooms belonged to one Maria Fernandes, which were leased out on rent to Akbar Shiekh, Fazrat Ali, and Naziram Dodamani. The inmates claimed that they have lost everything.
