A house was partially gutted in a fire at Dando-Siolim on Saturday morning.
The incident took place at about 10 am when a fire started in the house of Geeta Shirodkar while she and her two daughters were not at home.
Although it is not clear what caused the fire, there are speculations that a short circuit may have been the cause.
On noticing the flames, neighbours tried to extinguish the fire with the help of a hose and also notified the Mapusa fire station.
A fire brigade went to the site and extinguished the fire. While household goods worth an estimated Rs 4 lakh were destroyed in the fire, the firefighters managed to save jewellery and some other valuables.
Incidentally, Shirodkar’s daughter is due to get married in April, and a number of sarees and other clothes had been purchased for the wedding. All these clothes were destroyed in the fire.
Investigations are in progress to determine the cause of the fire.
