According to the police, at about 5 am, some locals saw the mobile phone tower in flames near the Bhovtawaddo-Assagao church. The officials of the mobile phone company rushed to the site and immediately contacted the Mapusa fire station.
The fire personnel rushed to the site and doused the fire. The circuit box of the mobile phone tower were completely burnt before fire fighters could douse the fire.
The mobile phone officials found a kerosene bottle near the tower and they suspect foul play in the incident, informed the police.
The mobile phone company manager, Sanjay Kumar filed a complaint at Anjuna Police station and acting on the complaint, the police registered an offence against unknown person under Sections 435 and 427 of IPC for allegedly setting fire to the mobile phone tower and causing a loss of about Rs 27 lakh to the company. Police Constable Abhay Palyekar is investigating the case.
A restaurant at Xeldem-Quepem was gutted in fire on Sunday midnight. Quepem Police have arrested one person in this connection, while two suspects are absconding.
The incident occurred between 1 and 1.30 am. The neighbours immediately informed the fire station officers, who rushed to the site to douse the fire.
Quepem Police on Monday arrested the accused, Jeftor Luis Travasso of Nirmolnagar-Tilamol, after the accused along with two others were allegedly caught on CCTV footage while committing the offence. The other two suspects are absconding.
Two huts were gutted in a fire at Pixem Dongri, Vasco, on Monday evening, causing a loss of Rs 30,000.
The fire personnel received a call at about 7 pm informing that some smoke was billowing from a hut at Pixem Dongri, Vasco. The fire personnel rushed to the site and switched off the power supply and later sprayed dry foam to douse the fire.
The fire personnel suspect short circuit to be the cause of fire, due to which two huts belonging to Hanif Shaik and Harish Jackson were gutted.
The fire personnel added that a sound system and a TV were damaged, causing a loss of Rs 25,000 to Shaik, while a sewing machine worth Rs 5,000, belonging to Jackson was damaged.
