With further improvement in the weather conditions and the sea conducive for fishing activities, the mechanized boat owners and the traditional fishermen are bracing up to resume fishing from Tuesday.
Fishing activity came to an abrupt halt last week due to rough weather conditions in the sea, leaving the vessels with no option but to drop anchor at the jetties and along the coast.
Sunday saw mechanized fishing vessels bracing up to resume operations at the Cutbona jetty. Workers were seen loading ice in the fishing vessels, indicating some may venture into the sea on Monday. Many others were gearing up to go out fishing from Tuesday after celebrating the feast of Our Lady on Monday.
Former Cutbona Boat Owners Union Cypriano Cardozo pointed out that most of the boats may venture out in the sea only from Tuesday given Independence Day and that the people will also be celebrating the Feast of Mother Mary.
He, however, pointed out that the entire fleet of fishing vessels operating from the Cutbona jetty may not venture out for want of manpower. He also stated that some of the owners are awaiting the arrival of the workforce from the states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Traditional fishermen along Salcete’s coast are also bracing up to go out for fishing either from Monday or Tuesday.
Traditional fisherman Pele Fernandes informed that the sea has calmed down after stormy sea conditions over the last week.
“We had to drop anchor since the sea was very rough. There was an alert too from the authorities for the fishermen not to venture out for fishing,” he said, adding that the conditions in the sea are now conducive for fishing activities.
