CANACONA
He was addressing media persons after his day-long visit to Canacona coast, which included a visit to the fishing jetty at Talpona and fish cultivation at Polem. He also visited the Chapoli dam, upcoming Gaunem dam (Gaondongrim) to examine the fishing and irrigation facilities and met traditional fisherwomen selling fish in Canacona.
During his visit to the Polem fish culture site, some traditional fisherwomen complained to the minister that the fisheries department’s mobile fish van had threatened their day-to-day sale and said the van should be stopped from selling fish in the taluka.
Stating that he sympathizes with the traditional fisherwomen, Palienkar said the government prefers traditional fish selling over mobile vans selling fish to the locals.
He however, stopped short of mentioning if the government intends to stop the mobile fish vans started by the previous BJP government in the State.
