Fish-laden vehicle hits roadside tree at Loliem

CANACONA

Within hours of a fish pickup hitting a newly erected road divider at Gulem, a truck transporting fish from Ratnagiri to Kerala veered off the road and hit a roadside tree at Maxem-Loliem in Canacona on Friday morning.

The driver, however, escaped unhurt in the mishap.

The Maharashtra-registered vehicle loaded with fish was heading towards Karwar when on reaching Maxem at about 8.55 am, the driver reportedly dozed off and lost control of the vehicle.

The goods carrier veered off the road, and went into a trench before hitting a roadside tree. The truck narrowly missed hitting an electricity pole.

The driver admitted he had dozed off after driving continuously from Ratnagiri throughout the night.

Efforts were underway to transfer the fish into the other vehicle and continue the journey to Kerala.

It may be recalled a fish-laden pickup had hit a road divider which was newly erected at the road-widening works at Gulem-Canacona on Thursday morning, while the vehicle was bringing fish to Goa.
