Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has stated that the Tourism Department will construct an Rs 8 crore multipurpose parking project in Temwada at Morjim beach.
When contacted, Arolkar said work to clean the area has begun, and the foundation stone will be laid by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on February 25. “There are several temporary stalls beside this project, and they will be converted into permanent stalls. Initially, 20 stalls will be set up at the site,” said Arolkar.
Arolkar said that for the last 25 years, local landowners had been setting up temporary stalls in the coastal area and had been doing business, such as selling clothes, tea, etc. “Locals had demanded that a permanent place be provided to them. Efforts have been made to provide good-quality stalls to these stall owners through the Tourism Department,” said Arolkar.
When contacted, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said that the multipurpose parking project at Temwada on Morjim beach would be important in terms of tourism.
There have been some concerns over the nature of the multipurpose parking project, with some locals wondering if the project will eventually be converted into another development.
