South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes expressed concern on Tuesday over waterlogging and the increase in dengue cases in Bogmalo, attributing these issues to government planning failures.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the area and meeting affected families, Capt. Fernandes highlighted the severity of the situation.
“I saw a video of a family in Bogmalo struggling with waterlogging, with water even flowing out from the commode. This is alarming,” he said.
Accompanied by former ZP Gopi Naik, he added, “After our inspection, we discovered that rainwater used to be efficiently drained away from the area. However, recent construction in open spaces has blocked these drainage channels, leading to the current waterlogging crisis.”
Describing the area as flooded and hazardous due to slippery conditions, Capt. Fernandes noted, “Stagnant water has also become a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes, causing an increase in dengue cases.”
The MP pledged to address these issues with relevant authorities and seek preventive measures against dengue.
“I will discuss this matter with the administration to find a lasting solution. We have identified potential solutions that we will propose and are open to adopting any viable measures they suggest,” Capt. Fernandes affirmed.
