Claiming that movement of heavy machinery and trucks carrying construction material could be seen entering and leaving the Raheja property at Carmona, the Carmona panchayat on Friday lodged a complaint with the Colva police station seeking directions to the Mumbai-based realtor to stop the work as per the orders of the Panchayat as well as the Town and Country Planning Department.
"Anticipating and fearing a law and order situation in the village on this issue due to the public sentiments, we request you to investigate and issue directions to Ms Raheja Universal not to willfully create any situation due to their suspected violation of the stop work order which might lead to disturbance and destroy peace in the village," the panchayat stated in its complaint to the Colva police.
The Carmona panchayat drew attention of the Colva police to the stop work order issued by the Town and Country Planning Department and the letter written by the Panchayat to the Mumbai-based realtor to stop work on the project.
"However, inspite of the directions, movement of heavy construction machinery and trucks carrying construction material can be seen entering and leaving the property thereby indicating violation of Panchayat and the Town and Country Planning's order," the complaint stated.
The Panchayat's complaint to the police is based on a complaint received from the Carmona village Social and Welfare Forum alleging that work is still being carried out at the Raheja site.
The Carmona Panchayat's police complaint assumes significance and comes days after the Town Planner R M Borkar issued an order called for the immediate halt to all ongoing work at the property of the Mumbai-based realtor.
Questions are raised in Carmona whether the TCP is duty bound to implement the stop work order or expects some other agency to ensure that the stop work order is implemented in both letter and spirit.
Meanwhile, Carmona panch member Allwyn George stated that copies of the complaint will be sent to the district collector, TCP, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, BDO and the Director of Panchayats.
He said the police were asked by the panchayat to visit the site and verify.
