VASCO
Vasco police have registered a case against a flyover construction company and its site officials after a 46-year-old scooter rider died upon falling into an unbarricaded pit dug for a flyover project near Dabolim.
The FIR was registered following a complaint by PSI Mayur Sawant attached to the Vasco Police Station.
According to the police, the incident occurred on May 28, when the deceased, Maruti Jadhav, of Dabolim, was riding his scooter near the “Material Organisation Depot Gate” in Dabolim, along the stretch where a four-lane flyover is under construction.
The accused named in the FIR include the contractor M/s M Venkata Rao Infra Projects Pvt Ltd, along with Project Manager Mihir Kumar and Site Supervisor Sanjay Kumar Gunjan. The firm is executing the ongoing flyover construction between MES College Junction and Bogmalo Junction.
Police said the construction team had dug a pit at the site to erect a pillar for the flyover but failed to properly barricade the area or install adequate safety warnings for road users.
The lack of proper safety measures resulted in Jadhav unknowingly riding into the open pit. He sustained serious head injuries and was declared brought dead at the Sub-District Hospital in Chicalim.
An offence has been registered under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for causing death by negligence.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Mayur Sawant under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
