Accusing the government for indulging in politics over Covid vaccination programme, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai on Thursday said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is not applying his mind on tackling the pandemic but goes by what is dictated by the centre.
Addressing the media after inaugurating the nullah desilting work at Fatorda, the Fatorda MLA said over 2500 Goans have lost their lives to Covid because the government did not focus on vaccination. “The government and the BJP leaders are interested in taking selfies by creating selfie points near the new vaccination centre. The ongoing Tika Utsav is not a wedding wherein the ruling party leaders can take selfies. This exercise ought to have been done last year”, he said.
Saying that the regional party has focused on Covid and the ensuing monsoons, Sardesai said he has told his group of councillors to stress on the vaccination campaign so that more and more people take the anti-Covid dose. “We have been giving our suggestions to the government, but the government appears more interested in politics”, he said.
Reminding that the Supreme Court has pulled up the Centre over the vaccination policy, even terming it as flawed, the Fatorda MLA said there’s no clear policy in Goa as well.
The Goa Forward chief also directed his ire at the district authorities, saying the officers heading the administration are blindly toeing the line of the ruling party.
