Digambar wants action plan for refurbishing Ana Fonte Garden

“Ana Fonte Garden is one of the dream projects of Margao which became reality with the strong support of then Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane who stalled the attempts to construct a multi-storeyed building. This iconic touristic place & recreational centre has remained neglected since 2012”, Kamat said, while urging the government to take immediate steps to refurbish the same.

The Margao MLA visited the Ana Fonte Garden with Pee Lee Ete, DCF South (Social Forestry Parks & Gardens), Dnyaneshwar Kudalkar - ACF, Eusebio Braganza - RFO, Sandeep Gawade - FG, SagunNaik “ local councillor, Adv Madhav Bandodkar, Convenor and Siddhant Kanekar, social worker for an inspection of the dilapidated areas in the garden.

“I have told the Forest Department officials to ensure that the old glory of this garden is restored. Repairs & re-commissioning of musical fountains, cleaning work of the spring water, trimming of grass and trees, repair of stage and changing rooms and overall maintenance of the garden needs to be taken up on priority”, he said.

Kamat added: “The first musical fountain was installed at the Ana Fonte Garden in Goa. This Garden has an ideal location which provides security to the visitors. We had a Committee under Adv. Madhav Bandodkar which voluntarily managed the garden. Unfortunately, after 2012 the government in power stopped providing support and assistance to their team which resulted in today’s condition of the garden".

Saying these projects provide recreational facility to the people and specially children, the Margao MLA said governments in power should not bring politics in maintenance of such projects and hoped that better sense will prevail and action will be initiated.

Earlier in the day, the Margao MLA launched desilting of the storm water drains in Margao constituency.
