Govt projects sans people’s consent unforgivable

The news report of completion of Phase-1 work of Mopa doesnot augur well at a time when the economy has contracted and people are tryinghard to eke out a living in these Covid-induced pandemic times and especiallywhen unemployment is ruling the roost.

In hindsight, history will not forgive this government forpursuing projects without taking the people into confidence. At this crucialtime the other fast tracked projects in the pipeline like double tracking ofthe SW rail line for transporting the contentious Adani coal and thetransmission line passing through the eco-sensitive terrain of the MahavirWildlife Sanctuary needs to be reviewed.

When most countries are putting India on the flying blacklist with the unprecedented rise in caseloads, positivity and fatality cases,one does not envisage that tourism which is the mainstay of Goa's economy willpick up in the near future, as the coronavirus is mutating into differentvariants and the pharma companies will have their job cut out for developingnewer versions of vaccines to fight the ever evolving spike protein whichcauses Covid-19.
