Fomento Resources recently organised a tripartite meeting on the recommendations of XI th conference on safety in mines. The meeting was presided over by S K Dutta, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety (South Central Zone - Hyderabad) under Ministry of Labour of the Central Government.
A number of other senior officials also attended the meeting including B L Meena (Director of Mines Safety, Goa Region), K K Dokuparthy (Deputy Director of Mines Safety, Goa Region). Besides, senior representatives from Fomento Resources, workmen and contractors were also part of the meeting.
All the government officials applauded Fomento Resources for the work it has done to make mining safe for its employees, workers and contractors. The officials also mentioned that Fomento Resources has 100% complied with most recommendations of the conference on safety in mines.
Speaking on the occasion, Dokuparthy said, "We get really positive response when we visit the mines of Fomento Resources for inspection related to various aspects like environment and working conditions. We received absolutely no complaints from the workers during our inspections."
Senior representatives of Fomento Resources gave detailed presentation to highlight various steps taken by the company to implement the recommendations of the conference on safety in mines.
They highlighted that Fomento Resources has 100% implemented recommendations like "all persons engaged at any work within the mine premises through the contractors have received relevant training" and "all persons deployed by the contractor for working in a mine must undergo vocational training, initial medical examination, PME."
A number of workers' representatives and contractors also praised Fomento Resources for the steps taken by the company towards making mining safe.
P S Banerjee, Director of Mining, Fomento Resources, said, "Safety is a way of life at Fomento Resources. It is not merely rhetoric. I believe our entire team has the same belief.
While giving his suggestions for making mining safer, Dutta said, "I have listened to the views of several representatives and they said that Fomento Resources has done good work. We have not seen many accidents in Goa, but we have seen accidents happening in other mines in India. I think we lack emergency preparedness system. Such systems will ensure that workers can be treated at the workplace itself."
