MARGAO
A rickshaw driver escaped with minor injuries on his forehead after his three-wheeler (rickshaw) got stuck in a pothole on the badly-damaged Margao station-district library road on Saturday, once again bringing to the fore the dangers posed to motorists by potholed roads in the city.
Residents of Colmorod ward of the Margao Municipal Council have been fighting for a safe and motorable road for over a month now. The road in question completely washed out at several stretches from the Margao railway station to the district library building.
While the rickshaw driver Uday Naik escaped with minor injuries on his forehead, the rickshaw wheel suffered damage. “I was ferrying a student to her institute. While trying to negotiate an oncoming two-wheeler, the rickshaw landed in the crater. My head landed on the steering resulting in injuries. The student also complained of headache after her head hit the front portion,” he said.
Local residents along with ward councillor Jaffar Budhani came rushing to the spot to complain to the media on the indifference of the authorities to the damaged road. “The residents have been fighting for a better, motorable and safe road for over a month now, but in vain. They had dumped some stone rubbles, but that has not solved the problem,” a resident said.
The residents pointed out that though the CM had promised to undertake the repairs during his visit to the area the ground reality has not changed for the better.
