A habitual fraudster who once was selected to be a police constable and was looting people through marketing apps and social media allegedly using his ID was arrested by cyber crime cell and crime branch joint action team on Thursday from Pune.
The police arrested the conman Suraj Pendse within 24 hours of a fresh complaint of fraud against him in Cyber cell.
Pendse was on the radar of sleuths from Goa Police’s Cyber Crime Cell and some local police station policeman for last one year. Four months ago he had looted a young filmmaker from Kundaim to the tune of Rs 40,000 on the pretext of selling a car through the OLX website.
The youth has lodged a complaint some months back with the Cyber Crime Cell.
Interestingly, Pendse has duped another person in similar fashion on a pretext of sale of second-hand car with fresh contact numbers. Police informed that Cyber crime has total three cases against him.
Three more cases were registered and are pending investigation at the Anjuna police station, they added. Pendse is to upload an advert on the site to sell a second-hand Wagon-R, which he never possessed, for Rs 2.20 lakh and people who wanted to buy a car at a cheap rate would fall prey to his tactics.
Pendse took advance money and would never turn up. He was introducing himself as a police constable. He used to send his Aadhaar card and police ID to the complainants. He also used to give the reference of one LDC from the Mapusa PWD office.
