CANACONA: Diogo Coutinho (80), who served as sarpanch of Loliem-Polem from 1977 to 1988, passed away early Wednesday morning.
According to family sources, Coutinho had gone to bed late Tuesday night, but was found motionless when family members entered his bedroom after he had failed to awake on Wednesday morning.
Coutinho was among the longest-serving sarpanchas of Loliem-Polem village and was known to have brought Loliem-Polem, the southernmost village bordering Karwar district, to the limelight with a slew of activities in the village.
He is survived by wife Remizia and three sons. The final rites will take place at Shellim church on Friday evening, sources informed The Goan.
