PANAJI
Former mayor and serving corporator Surendra Furtado in a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has demanded the cancellation of the Carnival parade as there is fear of violation of social distancing norms.
The government and the Corporation of the City of Panaji have decided to hold a Carnival parade and also a 4-day Samba Square Carnival party. While objecting to these events, the former mayor has alleged that the Goa government and current CCP leadership is only interested in making money at the cost of people's health.
"I strongly object to the same as there is neither any social distancing nor wearing of face masks at such events as when people party, they find it hard to breathe freely with the masks on," said Furtado in his letter.
