A former sarpanch, secretary and a staff of the St Estevam panchayat have been booked by Old Goa police on charges of forging signatures and altering the minutes of a Gram Sabha.
According to sources, the Tiswadi BDO filed a complaint in this case following a complaint which was filed by a citizen with the Vigilance department and other agencies.
The citizen had alleged that some signatures had been forged and the minutes of the meeting had been altered.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Vigilance department had issued instructions to the Directorate of Panchayats to investigate the matter.
Accordingly, the BDO conducted a preliminary inquiry and found irregularities.
The BDO then lodged a complaint at the Old Goa Police Station. Taking cognizance of this, the Old Goa police registered a case under Sections 465, 420 and r/w 34 of the IPC against the accused.
