Gaonkar was addressing a meeting organised at the Gurukul hall in Sanguem to condole the demise of Hindustani vocal artiste Kishori Amonkar, who hails from Curdi village in Sanguem taluka.
Hindustani classical music lovers from Sanguem paid rich tributes to late Kishori Amonkar and felt the need to have an art and culture centre (Sanskritik Bhavan) in the taluka to encourage local talent.
“Amonkar had excelled in Hindustani classical music and her name was famous around the world. We need to have suitable infrastructure in Sanguem to encourage and boost local talent,” said Gaonkar.
In his address, Gaonkar assured to lay the foundation stone for the art and
culture centre in Sanguem by December.
“The proposal for a Sanskritik Bhavan at Sanguem is already with the State government and I will pursue the project to ensure that it is constructed soon,” Gaonkar added.
Gaonkar and those present at the meeting agreed to organize an annual programme of Hindustani classical and semi classical music in Sanguem as a tribute to late Kishori Amonkar.
In his address, Dr Shankar Nadkarni, social activist and medical practitioner from Sanguem who had organised the programme, said the death of Hindustani classical music artiste Kishori Amonkar was a great loss to the nation and classical music.
A classical singer from Sanguem, Ramkrishna Verlekar, emphasised the need to take Hindustani classical music seriously.
“It requires many years of practice, dedication, consistency and honesty towards the art, which was displayed by Kishori Amonkar and that was the reason behind her fame and command over classical music,” said Verlekar.
Manoj Paryekar from Bhati also paid rich tributes to Amonkar.
