French government’s decision to bestow France's highest civilian honour, the Legion of Honour, on Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor for his writings and speeches was hailed by the All India Professionals’ Congress Goa unit as an acknowledgement of his growing influence and stature in the political space not just in India but the world at large.
AIPC Goa unit President Elvis Gomes who had recently led the Goa delegation to the AIPC National Convention in Raipur attended among others by Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and former governor of the Reserve Bank Raghuram Rajan said that Tharoor displays a high degree of statesmanship which the world was noticing.
He said Tharoor’s stint in the United Nations was coming in handy to espouse the cause of greater democracy in an environment of threats to democracy, for peace in the world and the protection of human rights.
“It is with joy we receive the news that AIPC National President Tharoor with whom we enjoy a personal rapport has been bestowed France’s highest civilian award ‘Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur’. We plan to invite him to Goa for a felicitation very soon. Many people in Goa particularly the youth have told me that they follow Dr Tharoor,” said Gomes.
