Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minster Francis D’Souza on Tuesday sounded optimistic over the commissioning of the South Goa district hospital by December this year.
D’Souza along with Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes reviewed the progress of work on the district hospital on Tuesday evening with officials of the GSIDC and representatives of the contractor. “Compared to my previous visit to the district hospital, work has gained pace at the construction site. The contractor has put in additional 100 labourers. They are plastering around 500 meters every day and I have been promised that the entire plastering work at the hospital building will be complete within a month”, D’Souza told The Goan.
Replying to a question whether the government has simultaneously tendered work on the procurement of medical equipments for the hospital, the Health Minister replied in the positive, saying the question of medical equipment procurement is being looked after by the Directorate of Health Services. “I can say that the South Goa district Hospital can be commissioned by December this year unless some major problems further delays the work”, he said adding that work on the floor tiling will commence after a month.
The Health Minister also inquired with the officials whether the contractor has been paid his installments by the government.
