Free calling, data scheme for youth rolls out today

The state government is all set to launch its 100 minute free calling and 3GB internet data scheme for youth on Monday. The Goa Yuva Samwad Yojana (GYSY) will serve in providing 1.25 lakh youth with free mobile connections, costing the government a total of Rs 1 crore.

Earlier last week, the State Cabinet had passed the scheme -- with Vodafone being selected as the service provider -- to be implemented in the State from December.

The service would be valid for three years with the Goa Electronic Limited (GEL) as the implementing agency. Monday’s launch will be at the hands of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, with Director (IT), Ameya Abhyankar, Sidharth Kuncalienkar, Pandurang Madkaikar as well as other MLAs being invited for the launch at Kala Academy.

Parsekar has earlier said that any youth who had attained the age of 16 years on or after April 1, 2016 or who was less than or 30 years on the date of registration could apply for the scheme. He/she should additionally be a resident of Goa for the last five years, he had said.

If any doubts arise regarding eligibility of the person, the same shall be decided by a committee consisting of the secretary to the Goa government, the in-charge of the department of information technology and others. The decision of the committee shall be final and binding.

GYSY will provide free calling of up to 100 minute and internet data usage of up to 3 GB for youth in the age group of 16 to 30 years.
