Charging the Narendra Modi government for the failure to allocate a proper share of the budget to the education sector, Congress youth leader Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday assured Goans that the Congress will not only make education free but will set up a Sports University in the State when the party comes to power after the ensuing polls.
He also promised that the party will create employment opportunities for the youth and put in place housing, roads, power and water infrastructure in place.
During an interaction with the students, Kanhaiya Kumar said that the student community should introspect where this government is taking the nation forward.
“Ten per cent of the entire budget should be allocated to the educational area, but this government has not taken it seriously,” Kanhiaya Kumar said.
He added: “Students should not only get free education but quality education. The government should take care of their food and transport as well.
He took potshots at the BJP leaders in Goa for going around the state and saying that Congress cannot be trusted since their MLAs defect after elections.
“People should question the BJP leaders why they go around to buy the MLAs in the first place. It’s not only in Goa, but the BJP has gone about purchasing MLAs across the country”, he said.
Kanhiaya added: “History shows that Congress had never gone with BJP and will never go with the party in the future as well”.
Saying that Congress will never compromise on its stand against the BJP, Kanhiaya said other opposition parties also have a responsibility to stop the BJP from coming to power.
Making a plea to save the foundation of democracy, he said, “We all need to introspect that a party which didn’t take part in the freedom struggle of India, will never work in the interest of the nation. It tends to sell the nation to their crony capitalist friends.”
National President of NSUI Neeraj Kundan said that BJP’s policies are anti-students.
“Government is selling everything and pushing privatization. BJP is responsible for unemployment and all the problems faced by the nation. Modi government has not given a single rupee relief to the student community during the pandemic. It failed to resolve the issues of students,” he said while making a plea to the students to support Congress and bring change in Goa.
Opposition leader Digambar Kamat said that youth power will play a major role in the assembly election as unemployment has been increased by the BJP government.
“Goans are migrating to other states and nations in search of jobs. This should not happen. But this is happening as the government has failed to create jobs and employment,” Kamat said.
