The Industrial Estate Associations and Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) have started a free vaccination drive for industrial workers in the State.
In a press note, GSIA President Damodar Kochkar said the free vaccination drive for industrial workers began in Kundaim from Wednesday.
"The Cuncolim Industries Association with the support of Balli Primary Health Centre is conducting a free vaccination drive on Saturday and Sunday from 9.30 am to 4 pm. On Saturday, around 550 workers have been vaccinated and more workers are expected to be vaccinated on Sunday," said Kochkar.
"The Verna Industries Association has also started a vaccination drive in Verna with vaccines procured directly from the Serum Institute of India in a tie up with Mother Care Hospital at Margao. Besides vaccinating industry workers, Verna Industries Association has also donated 1,200 vaccine doses to the government health centres for free vaccination in surrounding villages," said Kochkar.
He said the vaccination drive at industrial estates was possible due to personal intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and assistance from health authorities.
“The GSIA had requested the chief minister to hold the ‘Tika Utsav’ in industrial estates as industrial workers could not afford to lose a day's wage and attend the vaccination drive at the panchayat level," said Kochkar.
