Furtado among 37 file papers for CCP polls; total 74 till date

Former CCP mayor Surendra Furtado was among several candidates of the We Ponjekar panel who filed their nominations for the March 20 polls.

A total of 74 nominations have been received by Goa State Election Commission (SEC) till nomination closed on Wednesday from aspirants for the 30 wards of The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP). 

On Wednesday, 37 aspirants filed their papers several of which were by nominees of the Citizens' initiative ‘We Ponjekars’ .

"We are fielding candidates from all 30 wards,” said Furtado, who is convener of the ‘We Ponjekars’ panel.

“The panel comprises of citizens of Panaji who have come together in the interest of the city, cutting across political lines and leaving individual party affiliations behind,” said Aam Admi Party leader Valmiki Naik.  

'We Ponjekars' will be taking on the panel owing alleigiance to ruling BJP's Panaji MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate’s panel which has fielded candidates from all 30 wards.


19 more file nominations for CMC polls

CANACONA: 19 candidates filed 23 nominations for elections to 12 wards of Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) on Wednesday.

According to Returning Officer Udhay Prabhu Dessai, a total of 34 candidates have filed 40 nominations so far.

Former CMC chairperson Ranghanath Naikgaunkar (Ward 1 - Nagarcem), outgoing councillors and former vice-chairpersons Kishore Shet (Ward 4 - Delem Mastimoll), Dayanand Pagui and Maruti Komarpant and social worker Shubham Komarpant are some of the aspiring candidates to file their nominations on Wednesday.

Other candidates included Tome Levino Gracias, Jayashri Shet, Amita Pagi, Wilson Fernandes, Nascisco Fernandes, Ajay Gosavi, Rajesh Murari Naik, Gandesh Madganvkar, Bazil Pereira, Shekar Murari Naik, Sarika Naik, Sopan Dhuri, Sharmila Desai and Laximan Dharmu Pagi.

The nominations received on Wednesday were 1 in Ward I (Nagarcem), 2 in Ward 2(Chaudi), 1 in Ward 3 (Delem-Mastimoll), 1 in Ward 4(Mastimoll-Delem), 1 in Ward 5 (Kindlem), 3 in Ward 6 (Ponsulem), 4 in Ward 7 (Kindlebhag), 6 in Ward 8 (Patnem), 1 in Ward 10 (Palolem-Ourem), 1 in Ward 11 (Devabhag-Palolem) and 2 in Ward 12 (Palolem).
