SALIGAO
Khaunte has also dismissed rumours that he plans to contest from Aldona constituency at the next assembly poll.
Speaking to The Goan, Khaunte sought to explain the rise and fall of the G6. “This unity was only for the budget session. Vijay Sardesai, Naresh Sawal, two Congress legislators Vishwajit Rane and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, unattached legislator Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate and I had come together to corner the government on various burning issues during the budget session,” he said.
“This unity among the six legislators was clearly visible on the first day of the session when the issue of beach cleaning was discussed. However, on subsequent days some MLAs preferred to discuss individual issues and issues of common interest were sidelined. The important scam of Lusofonia was not discussed at length,” admitted Khaunte.
Asked if he was planning to join Goa Forward party, Khaunte replied: “I endorse those issues of public interest taken up by the new party. I may join the party if people of my constituency desire.”
Khaunte also sought to quell growing speculation over the possibility of contesting from neighbouring Aldona constituency for the 2017 Assembly poll.
“I am aware of the rumours that I will contest from Aldona constituency in the forthcoming elections. A lot of people from nearby constituencies like Aldona and Saligao approach me for their works and I happily try to attend to their issues,” he said.
“However, this does not mean I am going to contest from Aldona or Saligao constituencies. As things stand today, I will contest the election from Porvorim constituency only as a lot of work still remains to be done. My dream is to make Porvorim an ideal constituency,” he added.
