The Chimbel unit of GAKUVED in association with the Chimbel Manch distributed Scheduled Tribes (ST) certificates to 50 applicants from the village.

The certificates were distributed by Goa State GAKUVED President Adv Suresh Palkar at a programme near the Chimbelkarin Talli in Goulebhat on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Palkar said a ST certificate is a preliminary document to avail various schemes available for the community. “However, many people do not possess the certificate due to which they cannot avail the benefit of ST schemes,” said Palkar, while lauding the Chimbel GAKUVED unit and Chimbel Manch for taking the initiative in helping people gain the ST certificate.

Chimbel Manch President Gurudas Shirodkar used the opportunity to raise the issue of non-utilisation of fund meant for the ST community.

“As per State budget, 12 percent i.e. Rs 2,500 crore has to be spent on the tribal community. However, only Rs 100 crore gets spent,” Shirodkar pointed out and questioned why the remaining Rs 2,400 crore remains unutilised when the same could be used for the welfare of the tribals.

GAKUVED Chimbel Unit Secretary Mahesh Kunkalker, talathi Anil Soyru, Govind Shirodkar and others were present on the occasion.
