GAM convenor Adv Suresh Palkar said that they will attend the meeting called by St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar, which will be held on Tuesday on the occasion of Dussehra festival.
“We are going to attend the meeting as we are fighting for a common cause and that is to get the marina project scrapped,” Palkar replied to a question by The Goan.
However, Palkar reserved his opinion on sharing the stage as he said that it depends on whether the meeting is called on a political platform.
“For the moment, we are not aware whether the meeting is called by the MLA or by his party the RGP,” Palkar stated while adding that if it is called by RGP then they will have issues with sharing the stage.
“GAM has been very clear on the marina project agitation that the politicians will be allowed to use their platform but GAM will not use the platform of any political party as then it would send a wrong signal to the public,” Palkar stated.
However, Palkar put forth a proposal to MLA Borkar that he can lead the agitation of GAM if he wants to.
“The MLA can lead the agitation under the banner of GAM,” Palkar suggested.
Activist calls for unity
on marina issue
Expressing his reservations over two meetings being held on the marina project issue in Nauxim, activist Anthony D’Silva opined that it sends a wrong signal for the powers that be that there is no unity among the locals.
“This should not have happened. There should have been a single meeting with both the groups coming together on the issue,” D’Silva stated.
“When I came to know of these two meetings, I tried to contact MLA Viresh Borkar but he did not answer my calls. However, there is still time to make amends and I request GAM to attend the meeting organized by MLA Borkar,” D’Silva urged while stating that for any agitation to be successful, unity is important.
