Two days after an old structure at the Margao Municipal Gandhi market collapsed on Sunday, PWD Minister and Margao MLA inspected the market with a team of officials, including officials of the disaster management cell.
After the inspection carried out by the deputy Collector, disaster management, and officials of the Margao Municipal Council and PWD, the Minister said the deputy collector has been instructed to survey and demarcate the market area which pose a risk and danger to the vendors and visitors. He said if the report calls for demolition of the structure, the work will be executed immediately by the authorities.
Kamat further said that the Margao Municipal Chief Officer has been told to prepare the plan for the reconstruction of the structure in question.
When the media drew his attention to the toilet block that has showed signs of falling down, the Minister said the district Collector will take a call on the toilet block as well “If required the toilet block will be razed down and the authorities will provide temporary sanitary facilities in the market. The Collector will take a decision on the work to be carried out,” Kamat added.
